At the foot of World Heritage listed Mount Clunie Flora Reserve, two comfy self-contained cabins make the perfect base from which to enjoy an amazing spectacle of sky, mountains & forest.

On short strolls to both open forest and rainforests, a wide variety of birds (over 170 species have been identified so far), share our space with Koalas, Wallabies, Paddy Melons, Bandicoots, Bettongs, Antechinus, Dingoes, various Frogs, Sugar Gliders, Owls, Possums, Bats and many other interesting and sometimes rare wildlife. By day and by night, it's really rather crowded in our remote area of the world!

Make use of our extensive reference library to verify what you find: let us take you spotlighting, relax and watch the stars. Walk through dense rainforest minutes away from your cabin, climb a mountain, ponder a National Park, listen to the sounds or simply drink in the view.

Mount Clunie

"Mount Clunie" is a 324 ha (800+ acres) property, purchased by the Standings in 1952 as a stand of timber for their Woodenbong sawmill. Angus (Black Poll) cattle have been run on the property since the mid 1950's.

In 1999, following years of conservation work, an agreement was entered into with the NSW Dept of Land and Water whereby about half the property (126ha) was fenced off, in perpetuity, into four separate Environmental Areas for the preservation of flora and fauna.

The northern boundary, mainly unfenced, adjoins the World Heritage listed Mount Clunie National Park.

You are always welcome to visit the homestead gardens. This is an all Australian Native garden (with the exception of the vegetable gardens and the fruit trees). The governing factor in the design is that it is a garden for birds. In 2002, a photograph of the garden featured in Diana Snapes book The Australian Garden : Designing with Australian Plants.

Our low impact eco-tourist cottages were chosen as an additional and preferred source of income for several reasons:

1. We wished to share our love and appreciation of this appealing region with its peace, tranquillity and abundant wildlife within a spectacular mountain setting with others.
2. We adjoin the World Heritage listed Mount Clunie National Park (Mount Clunie forms part of the much acclaimed Scenic Rim).
3. The area includes the Border Ranges National Park on the N.S.W. side and we overlook the Mount Barney National Park on the Queensland side. The Richmond Ranges, Koreelah and Tooloom National Parks are close by as is the Main Range National Park.
4. Our Rainforest in an extension of that on Mount Clunie and we have many walks for those that enjoy bushwalking and other simple pleasures in life.
5. There is a great diversity of habitat, from sub-tropical and temperate rainforests and dry sclerophyll forests to grasslands.
6. As keen promoters of the use of native plants in gardens we hope that a visit to the homestead gardens could well be the catalyst for our guests to start a native garden of their own.

Our Cabins

Our timber cabins are gas powered, including the charm of (quiet & bright) gas lighting, sleep six comfortably and feature a generous kitchen, wood combustion fire, star gazing deck and sweeping mountain views.

Bring your camera, binoculars, sketchpad etc. We ask that pets are not brought onto the property.
